Torrent Holdings LLC, the parent company of photonic technology firm Torrent Photonics, has announced the purchase of Knight Optical, a UK-based manufacturer and provider of custom and catalogue scientific optical components and sub-assemblies.
The strategic move forms part of Torrent Photonics’ growth strategy. With Knight Optical serving international customers in scientific, defence, medical, pharmaceutical and optoelectronics industries, it is deemed as a way to expand the global reach and capabilities of both companies, providing an enhanced product portfolio, volume manufacturing capabilities and a seamless customer experience.
John Dougherty, CEO of Torrent Photonics, stated: “Torrent Photonics has grown tremendously since 2006, and with the addition of Knight Optical’s online catalogue, we can help to speed prototyping for key customers, as well as expand our service and sales. Building upon strong organic growth in 2023, we are well positioned to outpace the photonics market growth with an expanded customer base and offering.”
For Knight Optical, Torrent Photonics’ custom capabilities for OEM, drive for best-in-class engineering, vertically integrated manufacturing technologies and high-volume of customers will be of new benefit.
For Torrent Photonics – a firm focused on supporting defence, security, medical, industrial and commercial end markets – the addition of Knight Optical’s capabilities, including its stock range of over 3,000 product lines, will broaden its international footprint.
Colin Overton, Managing Director of Knight Optical, commented: “We are delighted to have found an ideal partner in Torrent Photonics, with whom we have worked together for years; this acquisition makes our partnership official.”
Overton added: “This acquisition is expected to create significant synergies, leveraging the strengths of both companies. Torrent Photonics will benefit from Knight Optical’s extensive product range and customer base, while Knight Optical will gain access to Torrent Photonics’ advanced manufacturing technologies and innovative research and development capabilities. It is an exciting opportunity for our customers and partners, along with new growth opportunities for our employees.”
In spite of the move, Knight Optical affirms it will operate under its established brand, and that customers can expect the same service they are accustomed to.
