The acquisition of German company Leybold Optics by production technology provider Bühler has been approved by anti-trust authorities.
Bühler has bought Leybold to expand its advanced materials division’s field of work to include functional layer manufacturing equipment. Leybold will be integrated into Bühler’s advanced materials division, but continue to be headed by its existing management. Leybold was bought because its know-how and product portfolio was thought by Bühler to complement its own functional layer technology capabilities.
Leybold in turn will be able to exploit Bühler’s global market reach. Bühler operates in over 140 countries and has a global workforce of about 8,800. In fiscal 2011, Bühler generated sales revenues of 2.1 billion Swiss Francs.
