BIAS appoints head of new industrial projects unit

The Bremer Institut für angewandte Strahltechnik (BIAS) has appointed Claus Thomy as the head of its newly formed department for Management of Industrial Projects, alongside his position of managing director of F&E Technologiebroker Bremen. Thomy studied mechanical engineering at TU Munich and joined BIAS in 2002 as a project engineer. In this function he was, among others, in charge of projects on laser and laser hybrid welding in pipe and railway car production and was instrumental in one of the world's first investigations into welding with high-power fibre lasers. Since 2007, Thomy has been group manager for joining processes, and has mainly promoted joining in the thin sheet range.

In his new position, Thomy will act as contact person for the industry, promoting the competencies of BIAS in optical metrology and laser materials processing.
