Avago Technologies has completed its acquisition of Infineon Technologies' Polymer Optical Fibre (POF) business unit based in Regensburg, Germany. The agreement was originally announced on 2 April 2007.
Infineon's POF business is one of the leaders in the fast growing market for automotive multimedia info-tainment networks and transceivers for safety systems. This business unit also provides transmitters and receivers for industrial drive controls and home broadband services.
With the integration of Infineon's POF group, Avago Technologies has essentially doubled its investment of resources in R&D for automotive, industrial and home networking product lines, as well as in emerging markets like optical links for mobile devices. In the future, Avago plans to continue to support and grow market share in all areas targeted by Infineon's POF group.
Fariba Danesh, general manager and vice president of Avago's fibre optic products division, commented: ‘[The acquisition] opens up opportunities for Avago's other product divisions and enables us to continue a leadership role in standards development in the optics space. We are pleased to welcome the team from Regensburg to Avago.’
