Edmund Optics has launched its Norman Edmund Inspiration Award, to honour the contributions made by the company’s founder Norman Edmund to advancing the science of optics.
The Award will be given on 10 October to the college or university optics programme that best embodies Edmund’s legacy. The award is $5,000 in Edmund product donations that will be presented to one of the three 2012 first-place prize recipients of the company's worldwide higher education grant programme, which is running in the Americas, Asia and Europe.
‘My father had a life-long commitment to motivating and inspiring young people to become involved in science,’ recalls Robert Edmund, CEO of Edmund Optics. ‘With this award we are carrying on his desire to excite another generation about innovation and discovery.’
The award recipient is determined by the Edmund Optics board of directors committee, led by Joan Husted, daughter of Norman Edmund and EO board member. The prize recipients of the 2012 Higher Education Grant Programme and the 2012 European Research and Innovation Award will be announced on 14 September. Product donations totalling $80,000 will be distributed to the award recipients. Applications are still being accepted until 30 June.
