The first market report analysing the use of photonics in the automotive industry will be released in December 2014. The European Photonics Industry Consortium (EPIC) has partnered with market research company Tematys to produce the market technology report, which is expected to be benefit developers of photonics technologies and sales and marketing personnel working in the field of photonics.
The market study will consist of in-depth analysis of the use of photonics technologies inside of, and for the manufacturing of, vehicles. Manufacturing in the automotive industry includes laser systems used in welding, cutting, and marking, as well as for acquiring information such as machine vision, reflectometry, thermography, profilometry, shearography. Photonics technologies are also widely used in vehicles for sensing and imaging, optical communication, delivering information (screens, displays, GPS), and lighting.
‘EPIC very much looks forward to this unique report that will help us in highlighting and promoting the role of photonics towards the automotive industry. The round-tables that will be organised between the members of EPIC and the automotive manufacturers will be a unique opportunity to get first-hand information on customer needs and expectations,’ explained Carlos Lee, director general at EPIC.
The report will segment the applications, analyse the industrial value chains linked to the applications, and the technology trends and major challenges per application, and analyse market data and trends. The report will be of value to those in charge of sales or marketing and product strategy as well as those developing the technologies.
The report will be released in conjunction with the Congress on Automotive Electronic Systems (CESA), one of the most important automotive electronics conferences, taking place on 3-4 December 2014 in France.
The report will be will be freely available to EPIC members as part of their membership benefits, and available for purchase.
