Representatives from Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory presented a plaque to Saint-Gobain in recognition of the company as a supplier of its Alpine Research Optics (ARO) brand products. In particular, the award cited the contribution that ARO components have made to the Injection Laser System of the National Ignition Facility (NIF).
The company has supplied more than 2,000 individual optics for this project, including thin film mirrors, beamsplitters and polarisers. The operating conditions of the Injection Laser System place very stringent demands on optical components, specifically requiring extreme damage resistance, extended pulse count lifetime and high performance.
