SPIE Photonics West, the primary photonics technical symposium and exhibition in North America, is expecting a strong showing for its first year in San Francisco. The event will run 23-28 January at the Moscone Convention Center, and will include special events marking the 50th anniversary in 2010 of the invention of the laser.
The organisers believe that the move to San Francisco from San Jose is enabling growth in the exhibition halls and the technical conferences. Sold exhibition space for both the weekend Biomedical Optics (BiOS) exhibition and the mid-week, 1,000-exhibitor Photonics West exhibition already exceeds last year’s numbers. More than 3,600 technical papers have been submitted, topping last year’s tally. Total attendance is expected to match or surpass the 18,000 present at the 2009 event.
