Singapore’s minister of finance, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, opened Qioptiq’s factory in Singapore, which has 800 employees working from the new site.
At a ceremony attended by nearly 200 Qioptiq customers, suppliers and employees, the finance minister was joined by member of parliament and executive secretary of Singapore Industrial & Services Employees’ Union (SISEU) Josephine Teo, as well as representatives from Singapore’s Economic Development Board (EDB).
Qioptiq’s three-storey, 200,000sq foot factory is located in Tractor Road, a primary manufacturing area in Singapore. It has been three years in the development and construction phase and now provides the Qioptiq Group with a centre for the manufacture of precision optics in the Asia Pacific region.
The new facility has been equipped with clean room facilities, which amongst other enhancements will allow the company to better serve its key defense and commercial customers. It also provides space to enable Qioptiq to work in the UV wavelength range of optics. The creation of a combined prototype and Technology Centre also facilitates faster responses to customers’ new requirements.
