Southampton university professor joins Photonics 21 board

Professor Rob Eason from the Optoelectronics Research Centre at the University of Southampton, UK, has been appointed to the Board of Stakeholders for Photonics 21, the European Technology Platform. As a member of the board, Eason will be part of the decision-making body responsible for formulating areas of research and innovation which will form the basis for future funding calls in the photonics area.

Photonics 21 represents the photonics community within industry and research organisations and develops the European photonics strategy for future research and innovation in Europe. There are 97 members on the Board of Stakeholders, with 10 from the UK, but Professor Eason is the only UK member within the University sector.

'I am very excited about this role as it provides an excellent opportunity to represent the UK in its involvement with the broader European photonics community in the areas of research, education, development and manufacturing,' Eason said.
