SPI Lasers, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Trumpf Group, has appointed former CTO of Trumpf laser division, Dr Christian Schmitz, as its new CEO. It is hoped his appointment will maximum the potential of new market opportunities that SPI has witnessed from the rise of high-powered fibre lasers.
The Trumpf group are investing in further resources available to the SPI lasers, particularly into research and development. As part of these changes, Schmitz will take up the new role as CEO of SPI lasers, assuming full responsibility in guiding SPI forward in the company’s growth and development. Christian’s technical knowledge, experience, and ability to gather group resources, especially in the high powered arena, will prove to be a great advantage to SPI.
John Tinson, vice president of sales and marketing at SPI, commented: ‘Over the last year SPI have seen significant changes in the fibre laser markets, one outcome from these changes has been a rapid expansion in market size and opportunity, and it is vital that SPI takes maximum advantage of this, this is an exciting time for and we welcome Christian to the team.’
SPI will be launching new fibre laser products in both pulsed and medium powered product ranges at the upcoming Laser World of Photonics China exhibition in Shanghai in March 2014, including the R4.3 medium powered CW/M fibre laser product range, as well as the improved range of RM-Z pulsed fibre lasers from 20-70W.
