Techcomp buys Edinburgh Instruments

Edinburgh Instruments has been acquired by the Techcomp Group.

Techcomp has obtained a majority of the shares in Edinburgh Instruments, a manufacturer of lifetime fluorescence spectrometers, lasers and gas sensors for scientific research and industrial markets. Edinburgh Instruments is based in Livingston, Scotland and was founded in 1971 as an early pioneer of time-correlated single photon counting, laser and gas sensing technologies.

Techcomp Europe Group’s CEO, Chris O’Connor, said: ‘We are delighted to have the opportunity of adding Edinburgh Instruments to our portfolio of businesses and to be able to expand our range of technologies and products.’

Following Techcomp’s takeover, Desmond Smith, Edinburgh Instrument’s founder and retired chairman will be joining Techcomp Group as chief scientific officer. Edinburgh Instrument’s CEO Alan Faichney, after two and a half years in the job, is leaving. A replacement is yet to be announced.
