Artemis Optical, the designer and manufacturer of high-precision optical filters including laser protection filters used by the American military and others, has entered into an agreement with a major international aviation company to supply advanced Head-Up Display (HUD) assemblies.
The HUDs enable pilots of aircraft ranging from jet trainers to large commercial airliners to absorb data without having to look away from their usual viewpoints. Cockpit crew see flight-critical information in front of them, in real-time, so they don’t have to look down at control systems.
Artemis Optical’s coatings maximise clarity without the need for pilots to change focus as the symbology is fixed at infinity, appearing to ‘float’ on the horizon. This maximises pilot performance and aircraft safety.
The company’s world-class knowledge and processes mean that established and new customers can now acquire optically aligned, assembled combiners to enhance their offering while de-risking their production. The use of Artemis combiners on aircraft flown worldwide demonstrates the company’s expertise in coating and assembling the latest generation HUDs for LED systems.
Having manufactured more than 3,000 HUD combiners, Artemis is now recruiting to add to the 29 highly trained staff currently employed at its Plymouth factory.
Nick Hurst, Executive Chairman of Artemis Optical, said: “This order encapsulates our strategy to be world leaders in this area and positions the company well for predicted strong continued growth in the HUD market.
“Our work on HUD combiners has been growing and particularly so in the past 12 months. We have one of the highest on-time delivery rates in the industry, exceeding 90%, and an outstanding 99% customer acceptance rate achieved over the last year, meaning the quality of our manufactured products, as well as our service makes us world class and at the very high end of the photonics sector.”
