Artemis Optical, a designer and manufacturer of high-precision optical filters including laser protection filters used by the American military and others, has entered into a 10 year agreement with BAE Systems to supply Head-Up Display (HUD) assemblies.
Artemis will draw on its many years of experience in the design and manufacture of HUD combiners’ assemblies for incorporation into BAE Systems’ LiteHUD®products from now until 2026.
The agreement supports the Artemis strategy of supplying assemblies rather than just components, allowing it to deal with aerospace and defence manufacturers directly. Artemis expects to employ additional personnel such as coating technicians, assembly staff and project management at its 25,000 sq ft Plymouth factory to support the agreement, during which unit sales are likely to be in the thousands of units.
Having announced elements of the order in June, Artemis can now reveal the identity of the customer and the 10-year duration of the agreement.
The company’s world-class knowledge and processes mean that established and new customers can now acquire optically aligned, assembled combiners to enhance their offering while de-risking their production. The use of Artemis combiners on aircraft flown worldwide demonstrates the company’s expertise in coating and assembling the latest generation of HUD.
Jamie Pindard, Sales Director at Artemis Optical, said: “BAE Systems is a very prestigious partner and a world leader in the design of Head-Up Display systems. Supplying the assembly, not just the coated glass, underlines our position as a leading international manufacturer of HUD combiners. Our strategy is to be global leaders in this area.”
