Laser Components has launched its JEC1.6l silicon carbide (SiC) photodiode. The 1.6mm2 chip offers a peak signal increase of 50 per cent compared to the company's 1.0mm2 JEC1 photodiode. At the 230nm wavelength, the company states that the signal increase relative to the JEC1 diode is almost 100 per cent, assuming full illumination. Price wise, both photodiodes are comparable. The new version is preferably mounted as an insulated JEC1.6l. Upon request, UV-A, B, or C filters can be included as an optional extra.
Laser Components notes that SiC is the standard material used in 'solar blind' UV photodiodes because it is UV sensitive and robust.
