Mass spectrometer component manufacturer Photonis has announced a new High Mass BiPolar Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption Ionisation Time of Flight (MALDI-TOF) detector.
With a large 250mm2 collection area that allows for higher sensitivities without higher post-acceleration voltages, the detector improves its efficiency for very high mass ions with less complexity, when compared to other detection solutions.
The detector is comprised of a high-sensitivity microchannel plate, a high-speed scintillator, and a photomultiplier that can detect both positive and negative ions with 30kV isolation. It also has a gridless optic system that provides high sensitivity detection for masses in excess of 100kDa. The compact shape and simplified detection system supports many high mass operating modes without the need to manipulate the detector through the ion beam.
