Hamamatsu’s S8664-1010 silicon APD (avalanche photodiode) provides a large, 10 x 10mm active area and several other benefits that make it suitable for design into analytical instruments for low-light-level measurement. Among these benefits are high sensitivity in the visible spectrum, high gain, low noise, and low capacitance. The detector’s spectral response range is from 320nm to 1000nm, with its peak sensitivity at 600nm. At this wavelength, quantum efficiency is approximately 85 per cent and gain is 50. In terms of packaging, the S8664-1010 comes in a ceramic package with an epoxy resin window.
