An inexpensive alternative to HeNe lasers, the SLM-632 single longitudinal mode diode laser has been announced by Laser Components. These SLM series laser modules provide high-power illumination with a stabilised wavelength, and further features include high power single mode performance, VBG wavelength stability, ultra-stable output power, and very low power consumption. The SLM-632 module offers up to 50mW at a wavelength of 632.8nm, making it a viable alternative to conventional HeNe lasers, in a compact design.
