Ocean Optics has released the USB2000+ Miniature Fibre Optics Spectrometer, which can transfer 1,000 scans per second into memory when connected to a computer via the high-speed USB 2.0 port.
The spectrometer can measure optical properties within a wavelength band of 200 to 1100nm. It can be equipped with a custom selected fixed grating which disperses the light to the 2048-element CCD array detector, producing results at a resolution to 0.35nm Full Width at Half Maximum(FWHM).
To operating the USB2000+ Spectrometer, the user installs the SpectraSuite software interface, and connects the spectrometer to the computer via the USB cable. No other power source is required. SpectraSuite is completely modular, Java-based spectroscopy software that operates on Windows, Macintosh and Linux.
The USB2000+ features a programmable microcontroller that allows flexibility in controlling the spectrometer through its digital and analogue General Purpose Input/Output Interface (GPIO) inputs and outputs. It can be used in various trigger modes. The internal non-volatile memory chip – the EPROM - stores the wavelength calibration which will automatically be used by the operating software.
