Dr Mirella Koleva is the CEO and co-founder of Quantopticon. She obtained her MSci in Physics, and MRes and PhD degrees in Photonics from Imperial College London, and has held postdoctoral positions in University of Oxford and King’s College London.
In 2016, she generalised and implemented into code Quantopticon’s proprietary algorithm, which describes open quantum systems comprising an arbitrary number of energy levels, embedded in a complex electromagnetic environment. To date, Mirella has raised nearly a million US dollars in public funding for Quantopticon. She is a recipient of the 2020 David Walsh Award for outstanding teamwork and leadership accorded by King’s College London’s Entrepreneurship Institute, and is an Honorary Executive Fellow at University of Bristol’s Quantum Technology Enterprise Centre.
In 2021, Mirella was conferred the title 'Most Influential CEO - London, UK' and ‘CEO of the Year - United Kingdom’ by CEO Monthly Magazine, and in January 2022, she was a winner of the annual SPIE Startup Challenge competition in San Francisco for her start-up pitch to photonics industry investors.
