Scott Dufferwiel is the chief technical officer and co-founder of Aegiq, a quantum technology start-up spun out of the University of Sheffield, which recently launched what it said was the world’s first compact true single-photon generator, iSPS.
Aegiq won the Institute of Physics’ Business Start-Up award in 2021 for its work on the technology, which Dufferwiel said ‘lies at the heart of our photonic systems to deliver new capabilities utilising quantum sources of light in quantum information processing and communications’.
Dufferwiel received his PhD from the University of Sheffield in 2014, after which he joined the university’s 2D Material Group, working on quantum optics, polaritonics and valleytronics of van der Waals heterostructures, working within the EU Graphene Flagship.
After a couple of years as senior research engineer with AMRC, he co-founded Aegiq with CEO Max Sich and CFO Andrii Iamshanov.
