Verena Wippo studied mechanical engineering at the Leibniz Universität Hannover, graduating in 2010 with a focus on machines, systems and automation in production engineering and mechanisms and robotics. Since 2011 she has worked in the Composite Group at the Laser Zentrum Hannover in Germany, going on to become head of the group in 2019.
Wippo’s main field of activity resides in the laser welding, drilling and cutting of unreinforced and fibre-reinforced thermoplastics, particularly for manufacture and repair in the aerospace industry. In recent years, Wippo and her colleagues have strived to automate and optimise such processes using the latest advances in process monitoring systems coupled with self-developed analyses and control programs, enabling them to process and analyse the large amounts of sensor data produced within these applications.
She has co-authored approximately 35 journal articles, 40 conference papers, and for the past two years has been the general chair at the Laser Institute of America’s International Congress on Applications of Lasers & Electro-Optics ICALEO.
