Mobius Photonics, an American producer of short-pulsed fibre laser sources, has named Robert L. Byer as chairman of its board of directors.
Byer was a co-founder of the company in 2005, and he was the 2009 winner of the Frederic Ives Medal - the highest award given by the Optical Society of America (OSA). He has been elected vice president of the American Physical Society (APS) for 2010, and is a past president of OSA and of the IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society (IEEE LEOS). He is a professor of Applied Physics at Stanford University, where he has served as vice provost and dean of research and been chair of the Applied Physics Department.
The news follows Mobius Photonics' recent announcement naming Robert Mortensen as its CEO.
