The Optical Society (OSA) has launched its Enabled by Optics campaign, which seeks to raise awareness of the importance of optics and photonics technology.
The campaign will emphasise the role optics plays in enabling innovation and the impact it has on everyone’s daily life. The campaign’s first phase will include a contest asking companies and students to provide arguments for the campaign. Students, both under- and postgraduate, can submit a video entry about how an optical technology plays a key role in commonly used products, while companies can provide a whitepaper highlighting how their technology impacts the public.
‘As professionals in the optics business, we know optics and photonics are critical parts of the products we use every day,’ said OSA Corporate Associates Committee Chair George Bayz of Synopsys. ‘The Enabled by Optics campaign aims to take this knowledge beyond our immediate community and help us shine a light on optics as an enabling technology.’
The contest will become an annual one and these video and white paper arguments will be used to educate audiences about the far-reaching impact of optics. The information will also be used for an online library that is accessible to policy makers, educators, consumers, and students.
