The Innovation Award Laser Technology 2012, worth €10,000, has been awarded to Schepers' research and development laser applications head, Dr. Stephan Brüning, and his team, for the three dimensional microstructuring of metals using high power ultrashort pulse lasers.
Organised by the Arbeitskreis Lasertechnik and European Laser Institute (ELI), the award was given to Brüning and his team at Aachen's town hall on 9 May. Brüning’s ultrashort pulse lasers have been able to create 3D microstructures that would be used for embossing and printing applications.
The second place prize was awarded to Coherent’s marketing director Rainer Pätzel and his staff, for the company’s excimer lasers for active-matrix-LCD and active matrix organic light emitting diode-based flat panel displays. Third place was awarded to Precitec Optronik’s head of research and development projects, Markus Kogel-Hollacher. Kogel-Hollacher’s team’s innovation is a 3D-capable co-axial laser brazing head with integrated seam tracking. The Innovation Award Laser Technology is organised by the Arbeitskreis Lasertechnik and the European Laser Institute.
